Tasting Notes

Aa.

Ardbeg Distillery, Islay, Scotland, 1815 – Present.

Ardbeg 10 Years Old, 1960’s distillery bottled, 80 Proof.

Even after all these years it’s still a treat to try such old Ardbeg’s, so when we mindlessly popped the top of this beauty we were sure to have a pen and beer mat at hand.

Layers of tropical fruit alongside Ardbeg’s unmistakable maritime peat smoke – a handful of ice and a splash of lemonade and it really starts to sing. It was quite the anticlimax when The Other, who at the time was using his dram to clean pizza stains from the table hurled the half full bottle across the room. My defining memory of this will always be seeing Bitch Boy, bloody of mouth licking the glass strewn floor clean of this classic Islay malt.

Brora Distillery, Northern Highlands, Scotland, 1819 – 1983.

Brora 22 Years Old, 1972 Rare Malts, 61.1% ABV.

Ah, the dram that started this whole thing off. If not for the taste of fresh vomit on my palate this could really have been a top notch dram, peat and pepperoni are rarely the best combination and this was no exception.
